This beautiful estate in Aberdeenshire has been the residence of the Royal Family while in Scotland since the days of Queen Victoria. The monarch reportedly fell in love with the country on her first visit in 1842, so much so that she began looking for a home there.

Today the Scottish estate is frequently visited by the current Queen and her family, and unlike many of the other royal estates, Balmoral is privately owned by her, rather than a public building.

However, there is still much to offer for members of the public who wish to visit, among other things, the opportunity to explore the acres of beautiful scenery on which it is situated. Here, you can take a walk while admiring some of the local flora, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for wildlife along the way.

You can also visit the many formal gardens that surround the building, where you’ll find Victorian conservatories and conservatories, along with a large orchard.

The Duke of Edinburgh helped create the fruit and vegetable plot and much of the fresh produce is used in dishes prepared on the estate.

Although the estate is privately owned, you can still take a look inside, as the ballroom is open to visitors. Here you will be able to explore a number of exhibits, including silver statues and works of art. You may also be interested to know that this is where the Ghillies Ball takes place every time the Queen visits.

You can also head to the Carriage Hall Courtyard, where in addition to the variety of modes of transport, you can see a collection of Christmas cards sent by the Queen and an exhibition on native wildlife.

When your day is done, you’ll likely be delighted to climb into bed in the comfortable and luxurious accommodations you’ve chosen for your stay.
