The name Iceland may evoke a land frozen in snow and cold winds, but you will discover that there is more to this country than these. The capital city of Iceland is Reykjavik. Situated at latitude 64°08′ N, you’ll find that Reykjavik is considered the world’s northernmost capital of a sovereign state. The city of Reykjavik is located in the southwestern part of Iceland. The beginnings of this beautiful city date back to the year 870. At that time, Ingolfur Arnarson first established it as a permanent settlement. It was not until 1786 that Reykjavik was officially born as a city. From this point on, the city became an official trading city, and then became the city you can see today. However, this is a wonderful place to enjoy a delicious meal while taking in the scenic beauty as the restaurant revolves around the city.

While there are many interesting places you can visit while in Reykjavik, the Imagine Peace Tower is one place you shouldn’t miss. This monument to John Lennon is located on Vioey Island, facing the port of Reykjavik. The monument is a “tower of light” projecting into the sky.
