Poodle dogs: all about this wonderful breed
Poodles are my favorite breed of dog. They were long thought to have one of the highest intellects of any purebred canine. Poodles are versatile because they come in a variety of three sizes: small (the toy poodle), medium (the miniature poodle), and large (the standard poodle). This large breed also comes in a wide variety of colors including: black, white, blue, chocolate, silver, red, and many other striking colors.
Poodle dogs are also known for excelling in modern dog sports competitions. They are extremely agile, which makes them very competitive when it comes to the exciting sport of agility. Poodles also display exceptional obedience skills and are excellent trackers. They are also known to do an excellent job of herding. Poodles are very strong in Conformation competition, evaluating correct build and temperament at dog shows. They are known as the aristocrats of the ring and have proven it time and time again with Best In Shows at such prestigious events as the Westminster Kennel Club and the World Dog Show. Regardless of the type of competition a Poodle enters, you can bet they will “wow” the crowd with their elegance and grace.
Temperament
The temperament of the Poodle has been bred to have an aptitude for duck retrieval, which makes most Poodles very comfortable in the water. For decades poodle dogs They have stood by the hunter’s side and are known today as precision hunting dogs. “Pudelhund” is the origin of the poodle’s current breed name and is reminiscent of the water dog developed over the years. The English language associates “pudel” with “puddle”, also eluding the water dog in this fine breed. The French have been credited for the variety of sizes of the Poodle and refer to the breed as the Poodle. The word “poodle” is related to ducks and water. In the US, the poodle has transformed from a heavy-boned, utilitarian-looking dog to the elegant, refined dog we see today. This refinement was exported to Europe and is now the standard we all strive for. Elegance, attitude and ability to work: this is the poodle in modern times.
The coat
The texture of the fur poodle dogs It must be somewhat crude and very luxurious. Tight curls are a must. Poodles do not shed like other dogs, however they do go through a “coat change” around 9 months of age that requires additional brushing and grooming to remove the fur from the pup being shed. This stage fades around a year and a half of age. It is recommended at this stage to keep the fur very short so that it does not get tangled, or to brush it daily to help it not get tangled. Poodles are required to have a solid colored coat according to kennel records, however Poodles come in two multi-colored patterns. Silver and blue poodles are born black and “light” to platinum tones over the course of about three years.

Poodle health problems include epilepsy, Addison’s disease, cancer, sebasic adenitis, juvenile kidney disease, hip dysplasia, thyroid problems, buoyancy/torsion, and tracheal collapse (primarily in toys). These can be avoided in most cases through proper breeding practices, proper nutrition and care. The average age of poodles at death is around 12 years, however, there have been individuals who have lived into their 20s and beyond.
