Main Reasons Why Symbian Failed

October 1, 2022 0 Comments

To date, there were 8 versions of this operating system which were: S60, S60-version 2, S60-version 3, S60-version 5, Symbian^2, Symbian^3, Anna and Belle. Nokia has always been one of the successful players in the mobile industry, but under the current conditions, Nokia and Symbian are losing their appeal. There are many reasons behind the failure of Symbian. Some of the reasons are –

lack of apps

Symbian doesn’t have ‘cool’ apps. If we compare the applications with Android and i-OS, Symbian does not hold the race. Nokia Store may have a larger collection than Android or Apple Store, but that doesn’t mean all apps work perfectly for the devices. Nokia store is good but very old. Most of the apps in the Nokia store are slow, long and have a horrible interface. Currently with Symbian, it’s hard to see developers wanting to develop for Symbian when there are better options like i-OS and Android.

feel and look

There is not much improvement in terms of the appearance of the menu. Even the other features of Nokia devices have not been improved since the first version of Symbian. The only improvement is the splash screen, in the Symbian^3 and Belle versions.

outdated browser

Nowadays, browsing the web on the go is the way we prefer to operate our mobile devices and the default browser on Symbian is slow to put it mildly. Checkerboard patterns are common to see while quickly scrolling through web pages. This problem can be solved to some extent by downloading a third-party application like Opera or Safari, but Internet browsing is not very comfortable with Symbian-based devices.

life hanging

It is known that users get addicted to smooth interface of i-OS or Android and lag of any app or feature is a big inconvenience. With Symbian you can guarantee locks and late responses. The touch is not as smooth and responsive as Android or i-OS devices. It has been greatly improved on the Nokia E-7 and N-8 devices, but it is still not up to par.

Symbian is outdated

We can define a Symbian operating system as an obsolete operating system. With the growth and development of today’s technology, we can say that it has nothing ‘special’ to beat the popular operating system i.e. Android and i-OS. In other words, we can say that it feels like Windows XP versus Mac or Vista. Another disadvantage is that there are many widgets, but none of them are implemented correctly.

Nowadays, it is very difficult to find Symbian compatible users. Other giant companies like Apple and BlackBerry are offering many advanced and easy to use apps and thus taking the spotlight for every user. Despite these drawbacks, we can say that Nokia continues to make the best hardware, amazing camera and great battery life that will have its fans.
