Increase your energy, lose weight, look and feel great!

There’s no question that along with eating a healthy diet, exercise will boost your energy, both immediately and in the long term, making it easier to do everything from commuting to work to cleaning the garage to running a 5K. It helps increase your strength and stamina, helps you look and feel good, eliminates stress, fights depression and fatigue, invigorates your brain, and helps you lose weight, which alone will give you more energy.

And it just makes you feel good. Exercise releases endorphins, your body’s natural happiness pill. The more endorphins you have coursing through your veins, the better you’ll feel.

Moderate and constant wins the energy race

That image you have in your head of being chained to the treadmill, drenched in sweat, pounding for hours, just to get these benefits, throw it away. Prolonged and strenuous exercise alone causes fatigue in most people.

Regular, moderate exercise is what gets you to the finish line in your daily life. A brisk walk, a bike ride, an aerobics class can do the job—anything that gets your heart rate up and your breathing up.

Haven’t you arrived yet? Low intensity activities also work. One study showed that regular, low-intensity exercise, such as leisurely walking, helped inactive adults suffering from fatigue increase their energy by 20 percent and decrease tiredness by 65 percent.

If you have the option of not moving and moving, move!

The experts are pretty clear on this point: Get 30 to 60 minutes of exercise three to five days a week to improve energy and help prevent heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers. But if you can’t reach that goal for whatever reason, do something.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is having an all or nothing mentality. If you can realistically only commit to working out three days a week, remember that three is better than zero! Even if you can spare just 10 to 20 minutes of exercise, you’ll always feel better afterwards.

To lose weight and feel good it is essential to sleep well. While quality sleep helps repair and recharge our bodies and minds, chronic sleep deprivation leads to persistent fatigue. And many of us don’t get the seven to nine hours of night we need. When we’re tired, our bodies crave carbohydrate-rich foods like sugary snacks. Sweets mean more calories, not to mention the sugar crash we know is coming. Also, when we are sleep deprived, our bodies retain calories and fat. And, as if that wasn’t bad enough, when we’re tired, we’re less likely to exercise.

But you can turn that downward spiral around and create a positive routine instead. Get good and regular sleep, and you’ll have more energy for every part of your day. You will have more energy to exercise and be active. You will be more prepared to face stress. And you’ll look and feel great!
