You may have been told that ginger is one of the foods to avoid if you want to combat bad body odour. But this couldn’t be further from the truth, as ginger, along with other healthy foods, can help you combat body odor once and for all.

Ginger is a pungent root that originated in Asia, but due to its health benefits and other culinary uses, it is grown in many warmer areas of the world. Fresh ginger is available year-round in the fruit and vegetable section of most grocery stores.

What causes body odour?

In order for you to understand how ginger can help you combat bad body odour, you must first understand what causes it. Body odor is attributed to sweating, but sweat alone can’t make you smell bad. The reason you get a bad odor when you sweat is because sweat brings toxins from your body to the surface of your skin, and therefore it is the toxins that cause the odor, not the sweat itself.

How ginger helps

Ginger is rich in antioxidants that help the body release toxins so they can be eliminated. Then, to help the body eliminate these toxins, ginger helps your body sweat, so the toxins can be eliminated through your skin. Therefore, if you are toxic and eat ginger, you will see an increase in your body odor temporarily.

So, if you’re going out at night and need to smell your best, it’s best not to eat ginger that day.

However, if you continue to consume ginger and avoid other toxic foods like fast foods, processed foods, foods high in fat and sugar, then you will start to see a decrease in your smell. You will notice a slight increase in body odor each time you consume ginger, until your body has rid itself of the toxins.

How to use ginger

One way to use ginger is to simply add it to your diet. You can make ginger tea, add ginger to salads and salad dressings, stir-fries, and just about any dish you can think of.

You can also use grated ginger in your bath water to promote sweating and speed up the detoxification process. After a bath or shower, take some fresh ginger juice and apply it to your underarms to help neutralize toxins.
