Hawkeye Movie Review

The film “Hawkeye” is based on the book “Buckaroo Creek” by Mark Langley. In this movie, an ordinary American family has to face many perils along the way in order to survive in their home country. The main character, played by Tom Selleck, is a simple man with a great deal of unappealing flaws. He always seems to be in an unusual good mood, but deep down he is broken, and it shows. This man is ordered into a mission by the U.S. Army, to go into battle and help his friend, Private First Class Joe Rhodes, a war hero and decorated Vietnam veteran, shoot down a group of German soldiers who have invaded the United States.

This film starts out in the Pacific where the group is sailing on a Supply Train while stopping for supplies at a dusty old warehouse. The crew makes many errors and almost all of them end up in the scrap yard. The young enlistee, Frank Dax, gets separated from the others and flown home. While being nursed back to health, he starts to think about joining the military, because of the excellent pay and the sense of duty. But when he gets back, he realizes that the assignment was pointless and he should’ve stuck to the scrap yard.

Two weeks later, Frank is assigned to the same location again, this time in a combat zone. This time, however, the Germans have prepared a huge bunker underneath the battle area. This bunker was a trap that the Americans were using to get inside the German base. As a result, they accidentally kill a huge amount of the German soldiers and are taken prisoner. Frank is put in prison, where he quickly starts to be abused and tortured, until finally deciding to escape.

A Military Story With an Alternate Political Agenda

As the war progresses, more soldiers are killed and more Americans are prisoners. Things start to get even worse when two German spies in disguise as Americans sneak aboard a U.S. ship and release a chemical that kills everyone on the ship. The movie ends with Frank, now a changed man, hunting down these traitors, but they are more than a match for him. He then escapes from them and heads back home. Two weeks later, he is arrested once again.

After spending some time in jail, Frank is given a dishonorable discharge. When he returns to the military, he doesn’t know where to go. He is just too traumatized by his experiences to even join up. One day, while washing laundry, he sees a news report that says the U.S. has declared war on Germany! This time, he knows that it’s war and he gets into action.

Hawkeye has been compared to other movies because of its unique story and the fact that its protagonist, an out of work World War II veteran, has a massive desire to exact revenge on the Germans for the death of his family. However, critics also say that the film is far from successful at telling its story correctly. Some say that its focus is on the wrong elements of the story, which results in an uneven and often times boring performance from its lead. Others say that the film is far from impressive, considering it has poor pacing and lacks originality. Overall, viewers can agree that this film is worth a try, but only if you’re not exactly a history buff.
