Features and benefits of Skechers Shape Ups

You may have noticed that some people walk around in these weird looking shoes made by Skechers. They look like the old moon shoes of yesteryear. Did you know that these people are subtly getting a workout just by wearing them all day? You may have some questions about how they work and what the features and benefits are. Here’s a couple.

Unlocks your knees: Instead of standing on your heels and centering your weight over your arches, your knees unlock, which takes pressure off your knee joints and puts weight on your quads, hamstrings, and calves, and also relieves back pain.

Like walking on sand: this is a great analogy. The goal of walking on sand is to increase the use of your stabilizer muscles and make your muscles work harder. Therefore, the goal of using Shape Ups is to make your body work harder using muscles that you don’t normally use.

Works with templates – you can definitely add templates to your Shape Ups. The only concern would be that traditionally people who wear insoles have major problems with pronation/supination. Due to the soft kinetic wedge and instability of the shoe, the insoles do not have a solid platform to center on. Some people may exaggerate their pronation/supination problems too much. So bring your insoles to the store when you try on Shape Ups.

Longevity – Shape Ups have approximately twice the lifespan of a traditional pair of running shoes. The average running shoe lasts about 300 miles, or about three months if you run or walk 25 miles a week. The Skechers rep I spoke with said he once heard about a 240-pound man who wore Shape Ups eight to ten hours a day and needed to replace them after five months.
