All About Concrete Lifting

In civil engineering, concrete lifting is a process which attempts to correct an unsightly concrete surface by physically altering the underlying foundation on which the surface sits. This process is done through several methods including raising,  cutting and toppling, or transferring. A person who wishes to lift an elevated object onto a lower level, for example, may use one of these various methods. Lifting trucks are also used in this process.

A concrete lifting process begins by finding a suitable spot from where the slabs need to be lifted. After this has been established, the slabs are then arranged in the desired manner. The method involved in raising and lowering slabs, as well as how exactly to position them, are determined by several factors such as the width of the ground and the thickness of the soil. The latter factor is often determined by the thickness of the soil, as it is easier to lay down slabs which are thick in this material. In addition to these two factors, some other environmental and physical considerations must also be taken into account before commencing a concrete lifting project.

One problem faced by those wishing to carry out concrete lifting is that of cracks. Even though the slabs are set into the ground deep into the ground, they will eventually start to grow outwards and hence may have cracks. This can be solved by carefully checking the location in which the slabs are to be placed, and taking measures to repair any cracks thatwhich appear. Caution must also be exercised while lifting a slab which has cracks, as falling chunks could easily get lodged under the load and cause a major collapse. In this instance, it may be necessary to temporarily suspend the concrete lifting operation, or remove the slabs and repair any cracks that may develop.

Another problem which concrete lifting experts are faced with involves holes in the ground which seem to be caused by numerous reasons. Some of these reasons could be holes caused by collapsed pipes at some previously underground. The worst possible reason for these holes would be soil consolidation, and there are plenty of concrete pumping services which are capable of digging holes in the ground far deeper than these would be able to. They can then pump the water out of the holes, leaving the soil behind completely clear. However, this option can prove to be very time consuming, as well as inconvenient, and it would be best to leave such holes to their own devices.

On top of all these, the environment may also pose problems for those wishing to perform concrete lifting. As concrete is made of natural gas and oil, it poses certain problems in terms of emissions, especially if the place from which it is being lifted is in a particularly industrialized region. To resolve these problems, most concrete lifting companies employ trucks fitted with special engines that run on bio-fuel, meaning that there is no harmful emission from their engines.

In terms of lifting, a concrete lifting expert is also likely to come equipped with machinery for drilling. These allow the engineers to bore into the ground for various purposes, depending on the area from which they require access. These can include installing pipes below the surface, carrying out maintenance works below the slab, and extracting water or other liquids from beneath. Drilling can even be used to create access voids, where water or other fluids can be pumped in. Whatever the reason from which concrete lifting services are required, it is important that the machinery used does not pose a serious environmental problem, as it has been found that most construction sites have large amounts of soil above the level from which they are working.
