The very words “Western Caribbean” evoke images of crystal blue seas, white sands and swaying palm trees that cast refreshing shadows under the glorious sun of this paradise region. An ideal destination for a honeymoon, a second honeymoon, or just that idyllic vacation you’ve always dreamed of, this area boasts perfect weather, delicious regional food, and plenty to do and see.

There are 7,000 islands in the Caribbean, ranging in size from Cuba to tiny islands too small to support a population, and plenty to explore. Much of this region is given over to pleasure, so you’re sure to find plenty to make you regret coming home at the end of your stay. Go snorkeling in the morning, eat fresh lobster for lunch, and then relax in the afternoon sun before dressing up for dinner and dancing the night away.

Wherever you come from, luxury ocean liners will take you to destinations in a ring of ports that are strung like pearls along the Caribbean coast, with calls at each location so you can explore and discover the charms of these sunny and friendly places.

Belize City

Beautiful Belize City on the mainland offers untold delights, including rainforests teeming with birds of paradise, ancient Mayan sites to explore, kayaking, cave hiking and scuba diving – see the incredible marine life around the largest coral reef of these seas. The locals are friendly and speak English, and the local cuisine is spicy and colourful.

Havana

Bright and exhilarating Havana offers shopping and attractions for visitors, followed by nightlife in a city that never sleeps. Tour the city and see its traditional sights, and there is always something to surprise and delight you. This is the home of big cigars, rum, salsa and voodoo, but never boredom.

Montego Bay

Receive a warm Jamaican welcome in Montego Bay, where reggae music greets you as you disembark on its sparkling beaches, fine dining and nightclubs. Diving, snorkeling, boating and guided pirate tours of this historic site await. On the north coast, visit Ochos Rios, part of the “garden parish” of St Ann, named for the lush forest that dresses the surrounding countryside.

Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands are what the Western Caribbean is all about. The best known is Grand Cayman, where in George Town you can find amazing retail and food opportunities to dream about. Grand Cayman also has stunningly beautiful scenery, including the famous white-sand Seven Mile Beach. The other two islands, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac, are also impressive, with their palm trees, tropical wildlife, and stunning coral sea.

the islands of the bay

The Bay Islands, including exotic Roatán, also have sparkling beaches and hidden coves, with azure seas and coral reefs to visit. The nightlife is great here and the food is fabulous, especially if you like fresh fish, lobster and shrimp, followed by tropical fruits and served with delicious cocktails.

Cozumel

Ixchel, Mexico’s answer to the goddess Aphrodite, lived in Cozumel, and who can blame her? If she’s still around, it’s likely that she will spend much of her time enjoying the unique shopping opportunities that this sunny island and its only town, St Michael, have to offer. Mayan ruins, perhaps some of the Ixchel temples, are waiting here to be explored, and divers can enjoy the amazing Palancar Reef and the other nearby reefs.
