Troubleshooting Your iPhone: Recharge, Reboot, Reset, Wipe, and Restore

There are many reasons why you might be experiencing problems with your iPhone. But before you do anything to correct what is wrong, you must first find out what caused the problems. Troubleshooting your iPhone is not as difficult as you think. In fact, you might be surprised that you can fix your own iPhone problems even if you are not a tech-savvy person.

A frozen iPhone is one of the most common problems with Apple iPhones. This means that your iPhone is not working as expected or not working at all. Here are some of the tips and tricks to fix your iPhone when it freezes or other issues arise.

Fill out. Make sure you charge your iPhone with a high power USB port, not a low power one. Your keyboard’s USB port (if you have one) is low on power, so you can’t charge your iPhone with that port. Only one high power USB port will charge your iPhone or you can use your iPhone AC adapter as well. You can easily tell if your iPhone is not getting power to charge just by looking at the battery image. If you see the red part of the battery image blink three times and then the screen goes black… this is an indication that the iPhone is not charging.

If recharging your iPhone doesn’t solve your problem, try this one.

Resume. Try restarting your iPhone, but if your iPhone is bricked or an app froze, you need to cancel the frozen app first before you can restart. To cancel the frozen app, press the home button and hold it for about 6 seconds. You should be able to cancel the program that is blocked. Then restart your iPhone. To do this, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and wait for a red slider to appear. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off your iPhone. Before turning it back on, wait at least 10 seconds. To turn on your iPhone, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple logo.

If recharging or restarting your iPhone doesn’t solve your problem, try another solution.

Restart. To do this, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home buttons simultaneously for a few seconds. The screen will quickly clear and you should see the black background and the white Apple logo. Just ignore any other symbols that may appear. It is important that you wait for the Apple logo before releasing the two buttons. The Apple logo means that a reset is successful.

But then again, if recharging, restarting or resetting your iPhone doesn’t solve the problem, then you can also try another way.

Eliminate. Most of the time, your iPhone will not work as expected, if there is content that is not synced correctly. This will require more than a reboot… you may need to completely remove the problematic content. You can try to delete certain content, such as contacts, calendars, songs, photos, videos, or podcasts. Such content may be causing your iPhone to not sync properly. To do this, connect your iPhone to your computer and go to the iTunes site. Change your sync options for each of the following categories: contacts, podcasts, calendars, etc. Click iPhone in the Source list, then select each tab to change the content that syncs, then click Apply.

But if recharging, restarting, resetting, or deleting your iPhone still doesn’t solve the problem, try another one.

Reset settings. There are two ways to reset your iPhone settings. First go to settings then general then reboot then reset all settings. This will reset everything, but no data or media will be removed. Second, go to settings, select general, select reset, and choose to erase all content and settings. Unfortunately, this will delete all of your saved files, folders, and content, so use caution. You may want to back up all your content before trying this. The second way will return your iPhone to the state in which you first bought it. Again, use the second option carefully.

If all the tips mentioned above didn’t work… you can try this option.

Restore. Try to restore the iPhone using the latest version of iTunes. Connect iPhone. When it appears in the Source list, click Restore on the Summary tab. This will also erase the iPhone and all your information on it.

There are many ways to troubleshoot your iPhone. If you’re still having trouble, the best advice I can give you right now is to go to Apple.com. The iPhone troubleshooting section of Apple’s main iPhone support site contains a tutorial for situations like this. They have an enormous amount of information available to you. This may be the best way to troubleshoot your iPhone.
