So you have a Halloween party planned, from the decorations to the food and of course the all-important Halloween costume. But an essential part of any Halloween party is the guests. Invitations are what you need, but how do you make Halloween party invitations? There are many Halloween party invitations available to buy, but for a totally unique party it’s more fun to get your hands on them.

There are two ways to make your own invitations. The first would be to create invitations from cards and decorations, the other would be to create them using your computer. Or if you’re feeling really creative, you could use both methods together!

For handmade Halloween invitations, you should start with a black or orange card. These are the traditional colors of Halloween along with blood red and ghost white. Cut the card to size and fold if necessary, this would be done if you want an image on the outside of the card and party details on the inside.

You can decorate the card with computer printouts like clip art or text or Halloween decorations like pumpkins, witches, ghosts, etc. with some spooky halloween lettering.

Let your imagination fly. You can look at invitations in stores or Halloween images online for ideas.

The same is true if you are creating your invitation in a word processing or editing program. However, to save printer ink, you may not want a solid color background. It may be more cost effective to have a Halloween border around the page and then a larger image in the center with the party details underneath. I usually make my Halloween invitations in A5 size so two can fit on a single sheet of paper, side by side.

Most people find it easy to make their invitations look super scary, but then they get stuck on the wording. So how do you create Halloween invitation wording?

The simple option is to simply write the details of the party – date, time, location, etc. – on the invitation. But a nice touch is to come up with a spooky verse that will give everyone a taste of what’s to come at the party.

Here are two examples. This first example is for a kids Halloween party idea:

“BOO, (name of guests)!

Calling all witches, ghouls and ghosts on Halloween eve when the moon is full, precisely at (party time) there will be a celebration of spooky proportions at the (name and address of host) haunted house.

Trick or Treating? RSVP to (name and number)”

While this second example is for a teen or adult Halloween party:

“On the eve of Halloween, the night of the full moon, you (name of guests) will be the victim of the prowling killer (name of town).

The only sanctuary is at (party address) at (teenager’s name)’s house. But this house is reported to be haunted by ghouls and other Halloween creatures this time of year.

So enter carefully as this place of refuge is not for the faint of heart, but it’s better than getting caught by the Halloween killer, so make sure you’re there for (party time)!”

Once you’re happy or scared about your invitation, it’s time to mail it. Just remember to keep a list of everyone you give invitations to so you can check them off when they RSVP, then you’ll have a good idea of how many guests will show up at your Halloween party.
