Do current scientific events support biblical prophecy, the end times of 2009?

When God set out to deliver Israel from Egypt, he attacked the gods of Egypt: the Nile, the cattle, and the frogs. Money is our god: he has to go, and he goes! But first we must anticipate the earthquake of Revelation 8:5. It precedes the economic collapse represented by “all the green grass was burned up” in Revelation 8:7. We saw above that grass is translated as economy because, “as the flower of grass, so also the rich shall wither”, James 1:9-11, best seen in King James V.

Do not ignore… a day is with the Lord as 1000 years… the day of the Lord will come”, 2 Peter 3:8-10. God gives man six days to do all his work, Exodus 20:9. After 6,000 years, time is up, but God, if God doesn’t want us ignorant, how can we know when the 6,000 years are up?” May 5, 2000: the date that Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn will line up with the sun and moon above, the first time in 6000 years.” TIME Magazine, 1-17-2000, European edition.

Science says that the planets and the sun aligned 6,000 years ago, but the Bible gives meaning to the event. When God made the world in six days, he rested on the seventh day, and cultures around the world have observed a seven-day week since ancient times. The fourth commandment reflects on creation in six days and says: “Six days you shall labor and do all your work.” Exodus 20:9. But that is not all. Speaking of “judgment day” the Bible says…

“Beloved, do not be ignorant. One day is with the Lord as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day. God is not slow… the day of the Lord will come.” 2 Peter 3:8-10. “The day of the Lord” is the apocalypse, and after 6,000 years (because God made the world in six days and there is no other reason why the solar system should be aligned “the first time in 6,000 years”).

You might be wondering why that lineup in 2000 is relevant now. In the Bible, the sun, moon, and stars paid homage to Joseph, but it didn’t make sense until after seven years of plenty when his brothers bowed down to him in a time of famine. Our alignment seemed minor until, after 7 years, the housing problems began in 2007, followed by the subprime crisis in 2008. We are entering a deeper crisis. Krisis is the Greek word for judgment in Revelation.

Economists predict another turning point for the economy in March 2009. 2009? God asked Ezekiel to lie on his side for 390 days, one day for each year that Israel disobeyed, Ezekiel 4:5,6. But God also said: If you don’t learn the lesson, I will punish you seven times, Lev 6:18,21,24 7 x 390 years = 2730 years. Israel’s captivity began in 722 BC. It should end in 2009 because there was no year “0”. (Google Israel’s Assyrian Captivity, Wikipedia). 2009 promises to be more than we expect.

“Of the times and seasons, brothers, you do not need me to write to you, because you know perfectly well, the day of the Lord comes like a thief in the night, when they will say: ‘Peace and safety’, sudden destruction comes…but all you are children of light [and “know perfectly the times and seasons”]. 1 Thessalonians 5:1-6. In a previous article we saw clues to “know perfectly” pointing to the 2nd Easter, and the Pope arrives on May 11, at the appointed time.

But first some background. Early believers understood Christ’s warning in Matthew 24:15 to refer to Rome. When Cestius brought in the Romans, the Christians fled and Titus was spared the siege a few years later. The Roman Empire fell, but the Holy Roman Empire rose, and in the first visit by a pope, John Paul II went to Jerusalem in 2000. Since then, Jerusalem has been “surrounded by armies” of Palestinians and others hostile to Israel, a sign that “her desolation is near”, Luke 21:20.

When Titus besieged Jerusalem, Herod’s Temple burned on the 10th day of the fifth Jewish month according to Josephus, the same date Solomon’s Temple burned almost 700 years earlier, Jeremiah 52:12,13. This year, the tenth day of the fifth month is August 2. The calamity on that date may seem coincidental, but it would have a biblical meaning that demands further understanding.
