Evolution of jeans:

Jeans have been and are an important item of clothing for many decades. Denim garments emerged during the 18th century, a time when cotton production was abundant. During that period, it gained importance due to its durability aspects and not easily broken, which greatly benefited physical workers. During the 19th century the garment was popularized by Levi Strauss, a well-known name in the jean world. Denim clothing was manufactured by them for the miners. The 20th century brought jeans as a pop culture fad. Western cowboy movies featured people wearing blue jeans. The 1950s saw fabric become a craze among the teenage population. Manufacturers took advantage of the situation to create innovative designs such as new colours, embroidery and patches. During the ’60s and ’70s, flared pants and hip-hugging patterns became popular.

It was during the 1980s that jeans began to catch the attention of fashion designers. New and glamorous patterns were created and popular models brought them out in commercials. Puffy pants, puffy shoulder pads, and puffy hair became a style. In the 90’s; It became one of the most sought after garments. To skim the cream from the denim market, manufacturers came up with several innovative ideas on the use of denim fabric as poodle skirts, hats, bags, etc. It was during that time that denim sales skyrocketed. Currently the new millennium finds denim in each and every one of the homes; world.

Denim as a fashion icon:

From the place of normal clothing, denim has become a fashion icon and is being adorned by fashion models. Now it has become a symbol of modern modeling and culture. The metamorphosis of jeans from a commodity to a fashion item occurred during the 1990s; when jeans are evaluated on various other items such as jackets, shorts, skirts, etc. in addition to regular pants. Different earlier styles like hippie flared pants and tapered legs were popular. The current trend is all about variety and sees denim as an item with bold styles to keep up with the fast-paced lifestyle.
