Top 10 Tips for Spring Cleaning in the Bathroom

November 9, 2021 0 Comments

Like the patterns of migratory birds, humans view the changing of the seasons as a time when our thoughts turn to spring cleaning. What seasonal patterns have to do with keeping our homes clean is a mystery, but it remains an important factor. It’s almost as if we only recognize dirt, dust, clutter, and debris only at certain times of the year.

However, after seeing my brother-in-law’s house, I am grateful for whatever reason, it would make me want to clean that disgusting filthy bathroom. [Smile]

The bathroom should be cleaned regularly, if only to keep germs under control. There are some cleaning tasks that can be done on a somewhat longer schedule than weekly cleaning.

1. Look under the bathroom sink and you will probably see a good collection of half-used personal hygiene products. Review each and every one of them and decide if they are worth keeping. Some products, like medicated shampoos and possibly tanning lotions, are good to have on hand. That green strawberry mint flavored shampoo that promised men would go crazy but only gave you a rash could probably be thrown away.

2. Observe how you store all the paper items in the bathroom. Are they organized and easily attached when needed? If not, maybe it’s time to give those facial tissue boxes and toilet paper rolls a place of their own.

3. The following are cloths and towels. If you’re like most of us, we tend not to throw away old towels. We ended up with a bunch of towels and actually only used the first or first two. If this sounds familiar, evaluate how many towels and face cloths you really need and send the rest to the wipe box.

4. If your cabinet has drawers, they are probably full of various hair ornaments, bands, pins, and so on. Review them and anything you haven’t used in the last 2 years should be thrown away.

5. Vacuum the interior of the dresser and drawers to remove hair and dirt. Hell, give them a good clean by dampening one of those old cloths with clean water.

6. Wash the liquid soap container or soap dish. Come on, you know that thing is disgusting, especially if you have kids.

7. Use a vinegar solution or a commercial product such as CLR to remove bathroom dirt and hard water deposits from bathtub or shower screens. Remove and wash fabric shower curtains.

8. Use a 10% bleach solution in a spray bottle to remove any build-up of mold from the tub area.

9. Review the entire contents of the kit and discard any prescription or over-the-counter medications that have passed their expiration date.

10. Replace that nasty toilet brush with a new one.
