The Effects of CBD on Anxiety in Biggie the Cat, a Residential Study

A residential study of the effects of CBD on an aggressive cat, Biggie, was conducted over a period of eight weeks to determine if CBD could calm the cat and eliminate its aggressive behavior on Riley, the family dog. After taking approximately 16.6 mg of CBD Isolate each morning placed on Biggie’s dry cat food, he showed a significant reduction in anxiety and fear, as measured by the cat’s behavior and lack of aggression towards Riley, the dog.

The experimental subject for this study was Biggie, a formally feral black cat, who was rescued after being attacked by a winged predator and seriously injured as a kitten. Biggie was taken to the vet, repaired, brought inside the house and after three weeks of hiding from the other two cats and the dog that lived in the house, Biggie slowly began to come out of hiding and get a little closer to the other pets. . At first, Biggie was afraid of Riley, a Golden Retriever dog, and would run away from her whenever she was around.

Over the course of about three months, Biggie observed that the dog did not disturb the other two cats and that they rubbed against her and slept next to her. It was as if the dog was his protector. Slowly, Biggie approached Riley, not even touching her. All the animals seemed to get along and there was peace in the home.

Suddenly one day Biggie came face to face with Riley and went crazy. He hissed and arched his back violently. He growled menacingly and headed towards Riley with both front claws extended, ready to attack the dog. My wife, who was standing near the kitchen, stepped in, scolded the cat, and tried to separate the two animals. When she did this, Biggie hit her with his claws and injured her in one of her hands and arms. Then he turned and escaped into another room to hide.

This became the new norm. If Biggie walked into the living room, where all the animals congregated during the day, and saw Riley, he would go into attack mode and charge at Riley, causing more human intervention and more scratches on his arms.

This aggressive behavior lasted for about a month. We tried pouring water on Biggie, but it just pissed him off and he kept attacking Riley. We did not know what to do.

Finally, I decided to administer some of our CBD pet tincture to Biggie to see if it would reduce his anxiety about the dog and calm him down. I used Isolate 500mg pet tincture that we developed for the CBD Health Club brand for our eCommerce site. I administered a full dropper, which was approximately 16.6 mg of CBD isolate, each morning to her dry cat food. At first, he smelled the cat food and walked away. Later I realized that he was back at the table eating his cat food, so I know he was ingesting some CBD.

I kept giving myself the same amount of CBD isolate every morning for eight weeks and Biggie kept eating it throughout the day.

After about a week, Biggie began to relax more and the violent attacks stopped. He would still avoid Riley, but he would just flop into another chair or a different end of the couch. You could tell he was losing his fear of the dog and becoming more relaxed around him.

Although this was an anecdotal study, other environmental factors could have played a role and the amount of daily CBD intake was not scientifically managed, observation of the cat’s daily behavior showed that something was improving its disposition and its aggressiveness towards the dog was significantly reduced.

The result is that I will continue to give Biggie a dropper full of CBD Isolate every morning and monitor his behavior on a regular basis. Double-blind scientific studies should be conducted with a placebo group to determine CBD dosage levels and measure the behavior of cats after successive periods of administration.
